- About Us
Marvin Jay Koetje, age 80, of McBain, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on May 5, 2019, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born on December 14, 1938 in Clam Union Township, Falmouth, to Floris and Tressa (Diemer) Koetje. He married Carol Marie Laarman on June 3, 1983 at the Prosper Christian Reformed Church. Marvin is a member of the Northland Community Church. He had raised chickens and had a strawberry patch for many years and then he and Carol owned C.K. Design Jewelry Company for over 25 years. He had served as a church elder. He enjoyed feeding the trout, bass, and bluegill in his pond and the outdoors, fishing, hunting, riding four wheelers and snowmobiles, He was a great driver and loved driving his Mustang and dune buggy. He was a great shot with a bolt action rifle and could catch a really nice brook trout to make others around him look like amateurs. We thank God for the Christian example he was to all of us and through a life of many, many surgeries and losing the ability to run at the age of 14, we look forward to seeing him running on the clouds someday when we join him in glory. He was loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sibllings, in laws, and nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Marie Koetje of McBain, his sons, David (Jennie) Koetje of Zeeland, Brian (Melinda) Koetje of Grand Rapids, and Daryl (Joy) Koetje of McBain and a daughter, Landa (Ken) VanPolen of Marion. His surviving grandchildren are, Joshua Koetje, Caleb Koetje, Isaac Koetje, Brad Koetje, Jaci Koetje, Nikki Koetje, Joel Koetje, Haley Koetje, Faith Koetje, Ryan VanPolen, Sarah VanPolen, and Alex (Melissa) Sands, great grandchildren, Brianna Sands and Audrey Sands. He has three in laws surviving, Martha (Larry) Herweyer of Hudsonville, Nella Kortman of Hudsonville and Carlton (Brenda) Laarman of Ionia.
