Lona Marie McConnell, age 84 of Cadillac, passed away on Dec. 28, 2018 at Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital. She was born to Clyde and Elsie (Bowman) Powers on April 25, 1934 at Moddersville. She married Harold E. McConnell on May 1, 1954 at the Selma Street Methodist Church in Cadillac. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2005. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Cadillac where she belonged to the Women’s Club and the CW Fellowship. Lona worked in retail sales at Ben Franklin, Walmart and also had worked at the Cadillac State Bank. She was a homemaker, a wonderful seamstress, did cake decorating, crafts, enjoyed reading, and going to church activities.
She is survived by her children, Steven (Bonnie) McConnell of McBain, Scott McConnell of Cadillac, Sally Ankney of Cadillac, and Peggy (Greg) Dupuis of Manton. She has 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are, Erma (Marshall) Forbes of Cadillac, Allen Powers of Cadillac, and Dorothy (Robert) Alexander of Rome, New York, and a brother in law, Phillip Swanson of LeRoy.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin McConnell, a son in law, Allen Dean Ankney, siblings and in-laws, Lois Flint, Raymond (Elaine) McConnell, Evelyn (Lewis) Lux and Elaine Swanson, Sharon Powers, Darlene Swanson, and a special niece, Marissa Powers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church in Cadillac with Rev. Tim Murtaugh officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 30, at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
