Larry Jay Emery, age 63, of McBain, passed away at Spectrum Health Downtown Campus in Grand Rapids on Oct. 21, 2018. He was born in Cadillac on June 17, 1955 to Darrell W. and Elaine (Irwin) Emery. Larry graduated from McBain Public High School and received a degree in management and sales from Ferris State University. He began his career as a manager of Johnson’s Clothing Store in Cadillac, and then became a manager at the Pine Grove Athletic Club in Cadillac. The major part of his working career was in automobile retail sales, retiring in 2017. He was a big fan of the U of M football and basketball teams and NASCAR. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a fanatic about mowing his lawn, up to four times a week. He always was up to visiting with friends and family and real enjoyment was watching his granddaughter Kia play basketball and softball.
He is survived by his children, Keri (Emery) Cook of McBain and Suzanne (Rick) Fichter of Chicago. Larry has one granddaughter, Kia Cook of Cadillac. The step sons surviving are, Jake Kolbicz of Cadillac, and Josh Kolbicz of Grand Rapids. He is survived by his mother, Elaine Emery of McBain, sister, Mary Jane Emery of McBain, his girlfriend, Patricia DeVos of Lake City, nephews, Matthew Scarbrough of Lansing, Sean Scarbrough of Lake Odessa, and also many close relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Emery and his sister, Lorraine Scarbrough.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 11:00 A.M. at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain with visitation on Friday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Burial will take place in Mount View Cemetery in McBain. Rev. Steve Boven will officiate. A luncheon will follow the burial at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome by the family and memorial contributions may be made to Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center at Reed City. Pallbearers are Ken Johnson, Dick Scheanwald, Jake Kolbicz, Josh Kolbicz, Rick Yonkman, Kevin Powers, Matt Scarbrough and Sean Scarbrough.
