Elaine Emery, age 93, of Cadillac, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2019 at her home in Cadillac. She was born on November 18, 1925 in Manistee County to Jay and Blanche (Stiver) Irwin. She married Darrell Emery on July 3, 1948 in Muskegon, he proceeded her in death on March 11, 1985.
Elaine attended both the Falmouth Church of Nazarene and the Cadillac Church of Nazarene. For many years she worked on the family farm. She enjoyed square dancing, cooking, and baking on the old wood stove, and having family around for get togethers, she also loved crocheting afghans. A hobby of hers was reading the newspaper and books. Elaine was employed at the Marion Riverside Electric for over 20 years, along with farming and the Muskegon Piston Ring Factory during World War II. She had been a professional automobile driver for over 12 years. She truly loved her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Jane Emery of McBain, grandchildren Keri Cook, Matthew (Jennie Sarna) Scarbrough, Sean (Amber) Scarbrough, Suzanne (Rick) Fichter, Jake Kolbicz and Josh Kolbicz, great-grandchildren Kia Cook, Adra Scarbrough, Cooper Scarbrough, Alex Jones, Ashley Jones, Josh Wheat, Aaron Wheat, Shane Sarna, Keira Sarna and sister Barbara Hazelbrook of Muskegon. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Larry Emery, daughter Lorraine Scarbrough, siblings Charlotte Day, Genevieve Doverstein/Casselman, Marquerite Somero, Pauline Nichols, and infant sister Cathlene Irwin.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 11 AM at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain, with Rev. Steve Boven officiating. Visitation will be from 5PM-8PM on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 and one hour prior to service on Thursday. A luncheon will be held after the funeral service. Burial will take place in Mount View Cemetery in McBain. Flowers are welcomed by the family and memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
